Microneedling

We believe modern beauty is best supported by ancient wisdom. Family Roots offers cosmetic facial acupuncture and Holistic Microneedling as an effective, natural alternative to injections and fillers. At Family Roots, each microneedling session starts with an acupuncture session, this helps maximize results by increasing blood flow and boosting energy or qi to the face.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is a non-surgical and minimally-invasive option to build collagen, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and even skin tone. Microneedling is the #1 non-toxic alternative to fillers and injections.  During a session, a device will be used to make small pricks on the skin with short, sterilized needles to promote your body’s natural healing response and collagen production. The result is more plumped, youthful, and glowing skin.

At Family Roots, microneedling is used in combination with Hyaluronic Acid and specially formulated Chinese herbal based serums to hydrate and heal the skin. This procedure can increase the skin's ability to utilize the nutrients by up to 3,000%.

How to Prepare for a Microneedling Treatment
  • When preparing for a microneedling treatment, it is important to avoid taking any NSAIDs, drugs, or supplements that thin your blood.

  • You should also avoid taking any other medications, including topical acne medications that include retinoids at least a week before.

  • It is also important to note that you should refrain from shaving the area that will be treated with microneedling as doing so may cause skin irritation during the treatment.

  • Avoid any excess UV damage a week leading up to your session.

  • On the day of your treatment, do not apply any makeup, sunscreen, or lotion to the area that will be treated.

Contraindications

While these cosmetic acupuncture and microneedling treatments benefit most people, it is not recommended for those with certain conditions:

  • High Blood Pressure – Unless controlled with medication, facial acupuncture is contraindicated for those with severe high blood pressure.

  • Migraines – For those who suffer from frequent, severe migraines, facial acupuncture can sometimes aggravate or bring on a headache/migraine as more qi and blood is brought to the head.

  • Acute Viral/Bacterial Infections – Cold, flu, herpes outbreak, allergies, etc…

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding – Or those actively trying to conceive.

  • Dermal fillers such as Botox – It is not recommended to have micro needling until at least 2 weeks after Botox and 4 weeks after a filler like Juvederm. There is not a health risk doing a needle pen treatment earlier, but it could have an effect on how the botox and filler work.

  • Intensive skin treatments – Such as laser resurfacing, chemical peels and microdermabrasion – wait until 3 weeks after the procedure to schedule an appointment.
