Acupuncture
Acupuncture is just one of several modalities used in Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture seeks to correct health on the level of qi. There are pathways within the human body through which qi flows; these pathways are called meridians or channels. Small, sterile, single-use needles are inserted along these meridians into specific acupoints to influence the qi that flows to the internal organs; this process affects both the structure and function of these organs. These acupoints were mapped by practitioners in China over 2000 years ago, and in the past few decades research has confirmed the existence and location of these points.
Needles can also work on specific areas of pain that may not be associated with internal problems – sport injuries, for example. A needle inserted near the area of a pulled tendon or overstrained muscle will increase the flow of qi to that area; this decreases the pain and accelerates the healing process.

Fertility
For the past 12 years, helping to achieve pregnancy has been the largest part of my practice. I am passionate about supporting people through acupuncture and herbal medicine no matter who you are, your gender, sexual orientation or what your fertility journey looks like.
Chinese medicine is extremely helpful in preparing the body to conceive anytime during the fertility journey. It is often helpful to start receiving treatment up to 3 months prior to starting your journey especially if there are other fertility-related problems such as:
-
PCOS
-
endometriosis
-
luteal phase defect
-
irregular cycles
-
amenorrhea
Chinese medicine is proven to be effective in treating fertility issues related to IVF and other assisted reproductive techniques. Herbs and acupuncture can help the ovaries to respond better to stimulation drugs by producing more follicles and maintaining healthier eggs. It can also assist in increasing the lining of the uterus to prepare for the transfer of embryos and increase the chance of successful implantation.
Fertility acupuncture like any other acupuncture seeks to restore balance to your body. At Family Roots we take a holistic approach to help create a rich, healthy environment to help support a pregnancy and birth. For each patient we will come up with a treatment plan including acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary and lifestyle changes.

Cupping
Cupping is an ancient method used to move qi and blood deep within and on the surface of the body. A suction is created within the cup and is applied to the skin. Cupping is used to treat conditions such as muscular pain, joint pain, common cold/ flu, asthma, and dysmenorrhea. Usually cupping is done before or after the acupuncture treatment depending on what the patient's needs are.
